  • Movies, Books etc. Investing and Non Investing!

    Hi all,

Thought it would be good to have a thread on movies, books etc for people to post recommendations for things they've seen or read.

I just picked up a copy of 'Only Two Seats Left' by John Anderson. It's the story of how Contiki Travel started. He's on the speaker circuit these days. Should be an interesting read I hope. I'll keep you posted!

I just finished the first series of Narcos. What a great series! Although they could have built it up a little slower with more background and filler events. But highly recommend.

Just about to finish 'Only Two Seats Left'. What an amazing life John must have led. Meeting so many people and making a small fortune in such an exciting way.

The book itself was easy to read, but I felt it needed more personal stories, more characters etc, surprisingly it lacked excitement itself.

That has a great but terrible ending! SPOILER ALERT

Turns out he lost it all! Borrowed heavily to invest in the stock market and for some hotel developments and lost the lot in the 1987 crash. Sobering last chapter.

I have finally just watched 'Inside Job' and wish I had watched that earlier. What a brilliant piece of journalism and how eye opening. Amazing that Obama reinstated half those guys.

The new Mission Impossible looks worth a watch. Great advertising for NZ too.

This looks pretty good! Hurricane. Movie about Polish fighter pilots in WW2. Worth a view on the big screen.

Just started reading a book called 'black edge'. It's focused on insider trading in hedge funds and is so far very well written, interesting and easy to read.

Think I might get a Lindt bunny for Easter...time to look past Cadbury who seem determined to shoot themselves in the foot on every occasion possible.
Time for some Swiss perfection at Easter...oh wait...chocolate isn't good for Dog's...who cares lol
The lovely and charming Sarah says its worth the extra money so who am I to argue. That guy is such a nerd..never tried an Easter egg before lol, what planet has he been living on ?

Good recommendation NBT - for anyone that is interested the book is primarily about Steve Cohen and his SAC hedge fund. He paid his traders and analysts extremely well and hired people who were golf course buddies with CFOs / CEOs etc. They fed recommendations to him and had to allocate a conviction factor to the research. A very blurred line between research and insider info...go ahead and read it!
